IN 2005 the Holloway Lake Association celebrated 50 years of service of the Holloway Dam. We will promote public appreciation for the Holloway Reservoir and Holloway Regional Park, not to make it busier, but to preserve it. If the public recognizes it to be a valuable asset, its chances are improved for serving another fifty years, intact and in optimal condition. |

A cement plant was created on site to provide the 10,000 square yard of concrete required by the dam.
The discharge capacity of the dam is 35,000 cubic feet per second, matching the potential flood discharge of the 500 square miles of river drainage basin above it.
The height of the water with the gates closed is 30 feet. The dam was built by 1953, but work continued upstream.
Full operation of the dam started in 1955. Holloway Reservoir is the largest body of water in the area.
In 1950, the City of Flint purchased 3500 acres of land up river from the dam site, mostly from farmers. First the river was diverted and many trees were cut down.
Twenty-three hundred acres would be flooded. The river water would be backed up for eight miles.
The project would cost $2,500,000.00 and would be repaid by the City's water fund.
The spillways of the dam consist of two 90 foot drum gates, three twenty foot tainer gates, and two rectangular tubes.
